ERP in a More Connected Environment

ERP News Magazine Issue 2, dated September 2019, examines how ERP connects with emerging technologies and changing business expectations. Manufacturing integration, artificial intelligence and reliable operational data run through the issue. Retail and analytics customer accounts provide other settings, while articles on legacy systems, agile implementation and finance consider the organizational work involved. The issue's forecasts describe expectations in 2019, rather than verified outcomes for later years.

The Cover Interview and Connected Manufacturing

Dusty Alexander, CEO of Global Shop Solutions, discusses the role of ERP at the center of a manufacturing business. His interview connects the system with the people, equipment and information surrounding it. IoT, connected shop-floor displays, mobile devices and sensors enter the discussion as ways to make operational information more available. Alexander also describes the company's focus on its product, customers and long-term development. Statements about implementation success and retention are company assertions, not independent comparative measurements.

Maricelle Boshoff of HansaWorld examines how AI could extend ERP once processes and data are ready. The article considers repetitive work, analysis and the potential value of intelligent assistance for smaller businesses. HansaWorld's Anna assistant is a product example within the discussion. Competitive Capabilities International separately examines IoT and ERP data integrity, showing how measurement and continuous monitoring could improve material and production records. Its manufacturing scenario illustrates an approach; it is not a named customer case.

Glenn Graney of QAD questions what real-time information actually means for manufacturing ERP. He distinguishes the immediate requirements of process control from the information windows relevant to planners and business users. Appropriate interfaces and timely production-order feedback matter more than using the same response-time definition everywhere. Yagmur Sahin's Industry 4.0 article considers autonomous factories and the continuing need for human judgment in applying AI and ERP information.

Three Distinct Customer Accounts

O bag's Oracle Retail story describes an international accessories business using Xstore Point-of-Service and Customer Engagement. The account connects a common customer view with personalized service and localized operations across a global store network. Its customer and vendor statements explain the business rationale; they do not provide a controlled estimate of revenue attributable to the implementation.

Sugarfina's Zoho Analytics account starts with information scattered across supply-chain and customer applications. Combining sources and visualizing production, costs and seasonal trends reduces the effort required to analyze them. The source reports a 50% improvement in the operations team's efficiency, alongside reduced manual analysis. This is an attributed result from the published customer account, not a universally applicable analytics benchmark.

The U.S. Navy's ERP cloud-migration report describes a large business-system move and the security rationale for consolidating and maintaining infrastructure. It is a separate public-sector migration story. Its account of a reduced attack surface is a reported rationale and assessment, rather than an independent certification of the system's security.

Modernization, Implementation and Industry Requirements

Pat Garrehy of Rootstock Software examines the costs and opportunities of remaining on legacy ERP. He considers disconnected information, customer responsiveness, workforce expectations and the maintenance burden of aging technology. The argument is a vendor-authored case for modernization, not proof that every on-premises system must be replaced.

Behiç Ferhatoğlu, General Manager of IAS, discusses caniasERP development and the planned caniasERP Live 2019 event. His interview covers version 8.02, user experience, the web client, IASDB and the company's international development. Planned demonstrations and product directions remain prospective. Pandora O'Hara considers whether agile practices can fit ERP implementation, recognizing both the flexibility they offer and the coordination challenges of larger projects. Andres Richter of Priority Software addresses administrative automation, while Jesse Linklater of Genius ERP discusses managing custom manufacturing through connected production, purchasing and job-cost information.

Lucy Thorpe of InCloud Solutions offers eight predictions for finance, including shared data, more accessible analysis and automated assistance. The CRM feature is headed as an interview with Target Integration founder Rohit Thakral, but substantial answers speak from Vtiger's perspective. Its useful themes concern integrated customer records, collaboration and implementation support; the inconsistent speaker attribution is explicitly recorded in the editorial notes.

News and Technology Outlook

The opening section also includes Gartner's AI augmentation forecast, Enginatics' E-Business Suite reporting services, VAI's drug-supply-chain verification integrations, SYSPRO's IoT award, itelligence's Open Industry 4.0 Alliance membership and SAP's fashion and innovation coverage. LC Waikiki's Infor CloudSuite PLM for Fashion selection appears later, alongside a Lumenia event announcement. PJ Jakovljevic of Technology Evaluation Centers closes the technical discussion with an outlook on cloud, AI and blockchain. Across these contributions, the issue links new capabilities with a recurring prerequisite: systems need useful data, suitable processes and people prepared to turn information into action.
