Personalized Solutions with ERP: Customizing for Every Business

How can ERP support the way a business actually works? ERP News Magazine Issue 45, July 2024, explores personalization through industry requirements, configurable workflows, connected information, and practical operational outcomes. Its theme, “Personalized Solutions with ERP: Customizing for Every Business,” connects flexibility with the need for reliable processes and useful business insight.

Three interview features bring together finance AI, ESG reporting, and manufacturing transformation. Alongside them, implementation guidance, industry announcements, and four customer stories examine the choices that shape effective business systems.

Executive Perspectives: Finance AI and ESG Reporting

Rohit Gupta, CEO and Co-founder of Auditoria.AI, discusses a reseller agreement with Workday that enables procurement of AP Helpdesk and AP Accruals through Workday contracts. He explains finance-focused SmartBots, supplier communication, accrual outreach, integration, and human review. The interview distinguishes the Workday OCR contribution from Auditoria's inbox and accrual capabilities, while describing the value of specialized language models and configurable finance workflows.

Gupta offers vendor-reported performance examples, including Denny's experience with finance inboxes, and outlines prospective remittance-processing and analytics developments. Those examples concern particular workflows; they do not establish one guaranteed productivity rate for every customer.

Monica Boydston, General Manager of Controllership at insightsoftware, explains the company's new modular ESG solution. She addresses collection and consolidation of sustainability and financial data, narrative reporting, analytics, workflows, filing, and integration with existing systems. Her emphasis is on allowing organizations to adapt their reporting approach to their needs. Boydston explicitly notes that customer case studies are still to come; additional frameworks and templates also form part of the roadmap.

ET Browne and SYSPRO: Processes Behind the Results

Pieter Goes, Vice President of IT and BI at ET Browne, and Jamie Veinot, Product Manager at SYSPRO Americas, discuss a relationship spanning twenty-five years. Goes explains how a 2023 upgrade supported standardization, demand visibility, MRP, and coordination across warehouses, procurement, and production.

The account reports a 95% fill rate, 22% inventory reduction, and 113% profit increase alongside 7% revenue growth. Goes connects those results with trusted data, just-in-time inventory practices, and executive efforts to streamline operations. Veinot describes embedded analytics, quality management, low-code tools, and AP invoice automation. The discussion also considers bills of materials and the planned transition from virgin to recycled packaging materials, rather than presenting every sustainability objective as completed.

Manufacturing, Supply Chains, and Connected Services

Adam Grabowski, Director of Marketing at Global Shop Solutions, identifies ten ERP capabilities for an effective shop floor: planning, production data, quality, inventory, CRM, documents, tailoring, integrations, dashboards, and job costing. Training, process audits, and internal expertise accompany the technology. A separate announcement introduces Dashboard Designer's configurable views, community designs, interactive shop-floor screens, and reporting capabilities.

Will Quinn, identified in the article as Global Director of Strategy for Infor WMS, examines inventory management, supply-chain mapping, and risk assessment. He connects operational visibility with supplier diversification, contingency planning, demand forecasts, and cybersecurity. Rootstock compares driver-based, time-based, and agile capacity planning, including the trade-offs between investment timing, service, and forecasting quality.

David Appel, Head of the SaaS Vertical at Sage, considers the connection between Sage Intacct and Sage PSA for project profitability, resources, workloads, invoicing, and financial planning. Roy Maria John, a Technology Architect at Infosys, introduces multimodal AI through text, images, video, and audio, with prospective applications in interaction, education, content, and robotics.

SAP's Customer Checkout article describes point-of-sale use at four European Championship venues: Munich, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, and Cologne. FC Bayern Munich's experience illustrates payment flexibility and venue operations without establishing a quantified universal reduction in queues.

Industry Developments

News covers Bill Oliver's appointment to lead SecurityBridge's US operations and Acumatica's College Education Program, including Farmingdale State College's completed classes and planned expansion. Further announcements report Infor's acquisition of Acumen and Albanero, Rootstock's Nucleus Research recognition, and Sage's Shopify-focused Inventory Planner Essentials.

NetSuite introduces SuiteSuccess Healthcare Edition with a Coastal Care Partners perspective. ECI acquires MiTek's BuilderMT and Sales Simplicity businesses, IFS acquires EmpowerMX, and Zone and Co acquires Staria Flow. Epicor and Nucleus Research examine AI adoption among supply-chain businesses; the findings describe associations and expectations rather than proving that AI caused higher growth.

Customer Stories: Tailoring Systems to Operational Needs

Exotic Woods, the Canadian specialty-lumber supplier, adopts ECI Spruce to handle varied timber measurements, purchasing, inventory, and transactions. General Manager Mike DeBoer describes redeploying approximately $100,000 previously tied up in dead inventory, saving about $2,000 annually in paper costs, and freeing at least ten hours of staff time weekly. QuickBooks remains in use for payroll and earlier records at the reported stage.

Lacher Großküchen GmbH uses Abas ERP to connect project-based kitchen supply, logistics, service, and finance. Following its February 2017 go-live, electronic invoices, central information, integrations, and project accounting support faster processes and improved liquidity. CIO Thilo Jörg and CFO Vanessa Fischer describe flexibility and visibility; collecting invoicing data had previously taken up to twelve hours.

Kiabi uses webMethods integration and API management with ARIS process analysis to support omnichannel retail. The case reports application development time halved, website response improving from 3.6 to 1.2 seconds, and some partner connections moving from months to a week. These are historical case results, not new deployments in July 2024.

Motion and Flow Control Products combines Epicor Prophet 21 with HQXchange after replacing a legacy EDI platform in 2023. Business Development Manager Peter Stember describes a three-month migration, proactive exception alerts, easier document visibility, and flexible connections. Additional partners remain planned. Across these accounts, personalization creates value when capabilities match the work and teams can sustain the resulting processes.
