COVID-19 special edition: cloud adoption, business continuity and digital transformation, with executive perspectives and a manufacturing implementation story.
About this issue
ERP in a Period of Disruption
How should enterprise software support a business when its usual assumptions no longer hold? ERP News Magazine Issue 9, dated May 2020, is a COVID-19 special edition examining that question. Its contributors discuss business continuity, remote work, disrupted supply chains and the choices facing organizations under financial pressure. The issue is a historical record of early-pandemic expectations, combining executive perspectives with cloud comparisons, implementation experience and sponsored coverage.
Executive Perspectives on the Changing ERP Industry
Zoran Radumilo, IFS President for LATAM and EMEA South Regions, connects transformation with industry knowledge and the ability to deliver business value. His interview considers the CFO's role in translating innovation and sustainability into financial decisions. He discusses remote project delivery, application management services, skills pressures and IFS Remote Assistance. An unnamed field-service example illustrates remote expertise sharing; it is not a quantified customer case. His expectations for technology adoption and the vendor landscape remain forecasts made during the crisis.
Rohit Thakral, Founder and CEO of Target Integration, discusses personalized services, automation, APIs and the integration of ERP with other business applications. He describes starting from business needs rather than a technology label, alongside the challenge of implementing change without disrupting daily operations. Future capabilities and five-year expectations are distinguished from functions already delivered to a named customer.
Colin Earl, Founder and CEO of Agiloft, examines why organizations seeking flexibility may turn to low-code and no-code applications. His contribution is explicitly introduced as an interview even though the contents also use article framing. He links rapid process changes and cash preservation with software investment. These are strategic arguments and forecasts, not audited implementation results.
Cloud Choices and Organizational Readiness
Claus Jepsen, Deputy CTO at Unit4, considers employee connection and the accelerated timetable for digital transformation. Russell Harper, Co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer at NexTec, discusses the appeal of cloud ERP as companies confront remote operations and changing demand. Kalyani Chaudhari of Sage Software Solutions Pvt Ltd and Shivani Shelke of OptiProERP add perspectives on visibility, automation and the changing expectations of customers.
TVN Reddy, CEO of Aptean, argues for industry-specialized SaaS applications, while Robin Irvine, General Manager at Avaap, assesses cloud advantages against implementation and adoption requirements. Frank Hamilton's separate comparison raises subscription costs, connectivity and limited control. Lucy Thorpe, Head of Content at InCloud Solutions, contributes both a cloud comparison and an account of accelerated digital trends. The differing views are retained: the issue does not establish that every organization should make the same deployment choice.
Manufacturing, Finance and the Meaning of Transformation
Mark Hughes, Epicor's Regional Vice President for the UK and Ireland, discusses efficiency, automation and the future direction of manufacturing. Jean Magny, President and CEO of Genius Solutions, considers how ERP can help manufacturers manage accounting, purchasing and production amid uncertainty. Tom Brennan, Chief Marketing Officer at Rootstock Software, examines the pandemic as a catalyst for replacing disconnected processes with a more adaptable cloud platform.
Jonathan Gross, Pemeco's Managing Director, treats contingency planning and implementation decisions with caution rather than assuming that disruption automatically produces effective transformation. Alok Ajmera, President and COO of Prophix at publication, emphasizes budgeting, forecasting and what-if scenarios for finance leaders. Glenn Graney, QAD's Director for Industrial and High Tech, distinguishes basic digitization from wider process change. Michael Grace of RPI Consultants considers cloud opportunities alongside readiness, while Adrian Bodomoiu, Managing Director at Wizrom Software, discusses mobile applications, HR systems and operational development in Romania.
Customer Implementation: Sharp Tooling Solutions
Nicole Meyers's Global Shop Solutions contribution presents Sharp Tooling Solutions, a Michigan tooling manufacturer that implemented the software in 2019. IT Manager Brett Cisneros describes bringing manufacturing, accounting and payroll-hour collection together after working across disconnected systems and spreadsheets. The account emphasizes goal setting, scheduled training, regular project calls and department-specific operating instructions.
Cisneros reports reducing dependence on spreadsheets and paper, improving access to outputs through additional training and using vendor-created programs to simplify tasks. He also reflects on the need to reserve employees' time for implementation and practise shop-floor data collection before go-live. The story offers qualitative lessons rather than a quantified ERP-caused return. Its 100% delivery and quality statements concern the company's relationship with Lockheed Martin and should not be generalized to every customer or attributed solely to ERP.
Sponsored SAP Coverage and a Common Thread
Yagmur Sahin's contribution sponsored by Protera Technologies discusses SAP operations, business continuity and managed services during the pandemic. It presents the provider's response and cloud strategy; its sponsorship is retained in the editorial notes rather than treating the account as independent product validation. Across this extensive issue, technology is a means of adjusting how the organization works. Useful information, explicit priorities, skills and implementation discipline connect the many different views of what recovery might require.
